Bored bored bored

I’m bored. Very very bored. :(

Lia moved and doesn’t have internet access anymore cause she is living with her grandma. I miss her, talking to her at least gave me something to do most of the time. Now there’s nothing. :(

So I am going to start doing things with coding again. I bought 2 new books yesterday, Code Complete v2 and Professional C# 2005. First I am going to start going through that C++ book I bought like a year ago. I really want to get back into shape as far as coding goes. I’ve really been slacking, and I am pretty mad about it. I just need something to do for crying out loud. I’m so sick of coding stuff that is basically useless. I feel like I have no direction, no goal to work towards, and it’s really bugging me.

Even this tapekingz website I’m doing with Tim and Andy is still not really what I’m looking to do. Sure it’s money and I’ll do it, but web stuff isn’t what I like really. That’s why I’m going after C++ again. That is fun. C# should be pretty fun too. I don’t know what I am going to make yet though, and that’s the killer. When I don’t have a goal to work towards I tend to be really lazy and not plod along. I need to find a good project for both C++ and C# and then I will hopefully be a little bit more content.

Then Leopard should be out, so I can really dive into Objective-C and OS X development, finally. I’ve been waiting for Leopard so I could use the new version of xcode and ObjC 2.0. Then I’ll hopefully start on my first planned OS X project, a FlashFXP like program for OS X, cause all the FTP apps for OS X suck as far as I can see. Especially when compared to my beloved FlashFXP.

I just had a brief look at that Code Complete book, and it looks like it’s going to be a really good read. It appears as though it will be really helpful in getting me back in shape as far as programming goes, so I think I may actually read that before I go ahead and move into actually catching up on C++ coding. I mean I already know how to code, I just got honestly really shitty theory from Southern so I think I will be well served by brushing up on some of this stuff.

What else. Oh, the new iMacs look awesome. The aluminum/glass thing they’ve got going on is really sleek looking. I thought the old iMacs were pretty nice, but these are just a cut above. And the new Apple keyboard looks amazing, what with it being basically a full sized MacBook keyboard, and damn do I love my MacBook’s keyboard. I still wouldn’t go for a Mighty Mouse though. God I hate those things. I will take my trusty 8 button + proper scroll wheel Logitech mouse, thank you very much. :colbert:

So, my summer courses are finally done. Finished a week ago actually. Thank god. 5:30 to between 8:30 and 9:15 4 days a week was really starting to wear me out. I need a break from classes to really relax. I wish I were going away somewhere or Toni were coming to visit or something, but she’s not and I’m not, so I am going to be bored until class starts back up.

Speaking of, one of my damn classes got canceled. CSC400L one of the ones I really really need to graduate, and one I was sort of looking forward to. Fortunately I don’t think it’s going to keep me from graduating, because I will just take CSC499 instead, which can apparently be counted as an L course if you request it. So it won’t really throw anything off I don’t think. But still, it pisses me off.

They also retracted my scholarship because I apparently don’t have a need for it. I guess the expected family contribution was more than the cost of tuition for the school, so I don’t get any free money. And they told me I was so we didn’t pay the $1000 the scholarship would have covered and then it never came through and they were going to drop all my courses and I was like :gonk: so it was a pretty shitty beginning of the week.

And on to work! Work is gaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay. My boss has been on vacation for the last 3 weeks, including this one, though. So that’s not too bad. It’s still really boring though, honestly. There’s so many things in the system that are like “waiting for user to come back” or “waiting for user to call” or “Left voice mail” or we’re waiting on my boss for so even though there are quite a few things to be done, we can’t actually do them, so I mostly just read SA. When he gets back there’s going to be a whole lot of stuff to do, because there’s going to be a whole bunch of new faculty starting for the fall and we’ve gotta roll computers out to all of them. At least it will be something to do I guess. Honestly it won’t even be hard because they’re all new staff so it’s not even like we’ll have to migrate data or anything, just give them the new laptop and send them on their way.

Damn. I can’t wait to finish school and get a more interesting job. I miss Sikorsky. Though I kinda don’t want to work there after I graduate, because once again I’ll just be riding my dad’s coattails and that’s really something I am getting sick of. I am really thinking I may try to find a job in the Boston area and move up there. Then maybe get my masters from a school somewhere around there. I think that would be pretty enjoyable, honestly.

Anyway, that’s enough writing for tonight. I have run out of things to say, so I am going to go to bed. I have to get up at 6:30 tomorrow, and I am pretty tired.

gng. :patriot:
